Places of Worship connected to the Church of England engage in the rules and procedures for building works or additions to the church fabric. The PCC works with the DAC (Diocesan Advisory Committee) to ensure these are correctly planned, developed and completed.

What is the DAC?

DAC stands for Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches, and every diocese in the Church of England must have one. The DAC is a statutory body established under the Care of Churches and Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Measure 1991.

It exists as the advisory component of Ecclesiastical Exemption. The church enjoys this privilege, Which means it is exempt from having to apply for Listed Building Consent, as would be necessary for listed secular buildings. The great advantage of this system is that it considers the importance of a church’s Christian mission rather than just the church’s architectural or historic significance when assessing a proposal for works.
